About
Calee Schroeder Reed was born in Rexburg, Idaho, and grew up in San Diego, California. Her mother was a vocal coach, and Calee was taught to sing at a very young age. By the time Calee was a teenager, her sisters and her were performing in multi-part harmony all over Southern California.
Calee began writing music of her own after high school – experimenting with different genres ranging from grunge rock to pop. When her mother was diagnosed with cancer, her focus turned to Christian media and worship music.
After battling colon cancer for four years, her mother became terminally ill and Calee began writing worship music of her own as a way to sustain her faith. Calee credits Christian music for keeping her belief in God alive after her mother’s passing.
She penned The Waiting Place – her debut album – as a way to give back to the music community and reach others who find themselves experiencing similar trials in life.
The album was released by Shadow Mountain Records in May of 2012. A music video for “She Put the Music in Me” features home video and photos of Calee’s mother. All proceeds from the download of that song in May were donated to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.
Her sophomore release was an EP called “What Heaven Feels Like” released in June of 2015 . As she was writing and preparing to record that album she was going through one of the most difficult times of her life. Her marriage of several years was ending in divorce and she had a young daughter with very trying health problems. Following the release of her EP, she struggled for many years as a single mother, working hard to provide for her daughter and still maintain a busy schedule of live performances.
During the next few years she continued to write songs that lift, inspire, and speak to the pain felt by so many in their lives. What resulted was her next full length album, “Believer”, a light-infused collection of songs celebrating rebirth and rebuilding, recorded during a time when she had recently met the man that she would soon marry, John, a widower and father of 4 children. As she looks to the future in her career, Calee is excited for the next chapter. She is currently preparing to record her first full length Christmas album, scheduled to be released in 2019.
