Bedtime and Naptime

It all started when Hilary Weeks decided to adapt the lyrics of the song “My Favorite Things” to capture her favorite things more accurately. High on the list of favorites came “bedtime and naptime,” but those were soon followed by all kinds of quotes, experiences, memories, insights, and even some fun recipes. In this joyful book for moms, Hilary shares many of those favorite things, including her famed “song parodies” on an accompanying CD.

Lyrics:

Climb Ev’ry Mountain
Climb ev’ry mountain
Wash every load
If you’re alive and breathing
Then there are clothes to fold

Sort whites and colors
Wash some on hot
All my whites are pink now
Because of one red sock

Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo – INTRO
Now, since we’re on the subject of theme songs, is anyone interesting in a theme song for teenagers? It seems to me that teenagers don’t listen very well because you can tell them things over and over and over and they just don’t get it. For instance, I have a teenage daughter and I I have told her more times than I can count, “Please clear off the bathroom counter. Before you go to school, put away the hairspray, the deodorant, the curling irons. Just put it all in the drawer.” And every time, she will say: “Ok, Mom. I totally will. That is no problem at all.” And then she goes to school and I walk by the bathroom and everything is still sitting there on the counter. So I have decided that we speak different languages. When I am speaking, this is what she hears:
Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo
Salagadoola mechicka boola bibbidi-bobbidi-boo
I am a teenager, so all I hear is
bibbidi-bobbidi-boo

I Believe I Can Fly

I believe I can fly
And I will if you continue to cry
I’ve listened to you whine all day
Gonna start the minivan and drive away

Cuz my ears are gettin’ sore
You’ll see me running through that open door
And when daddy gets home
Tell him not to call my cell phone
Unless he’s made you dinner

And the dishes have been done
And you’ve been tucked into bed
With pajamas and a pull-up on
Otherwise I’ll run errands all night long
Or at least I will try

To- Do List

The alarm clock goes off.
I feel like I’m dead.
I push snooze three times
Then I roll out of bed

The house is so quiet
The kids still asleep
I have time to myself
So I brush my teeth

Then I read my scriptures
And say my prayers
Heaven knows I’ll need help
Not to pull out my hair

I wish my whole day could be calm like this
But alas let the rat race begin

The kids all wake up
I help them get dressed
I do their hair then I make them breakfast
A healthy well balanced meal

I serve captain crunch and fruit loops
I pack them a lunch
I find shoes and socks
Just in time for the bus

I kiss them as they walk out the door
You might think I’d be lonely but there are two  more
I plop them in front of morning T.V.
It’s a small price to pay for my sanity

Then I exercise for 20 minutes
Shower, dress and do the dishes
Throw in a few loads of laundry
Vacuum the floor

Sweep the kitchen, dust the shelves
I really ought to hire help
Change a diaper, find my keys
Then head out the door

To Wal-Mart, Costco, Target, ShopKo,
Walgreens just to get a few things
Back in time for visit teaching
But that’s not all

Plan the budget pay the bills,
Clean up at least a dozen spills
Check my e-mail, write a blog,
Then call my best friend

Help with homework, drive to soccer
Make an appointment with the doctor
Plan a birthday, feed the dog,
Piano lessons

Send the friends home
Pick the kids up
Time for the dinner
I’ll order pizza
And when tomorrow comes I’ll do this all again

Then my husband comes home, and pulls something out of my hair
It’s a smushed cheerio; I didn’t know it was there
He gives me a hug in his sweet gentle way
And then he asks, “So, what did you do today?”
Just the usual

My Favorite Things

When I don’t constantly nag at my children
They just do their chores like sweeping the kitchen
When they put toilet paper back on the roll
It feels like I’ve witnessed a small miracle

Here’s a few more of my favorite things:

Bedtime and naptime and bedtime and naptime
Bedtime and naptime and bedtime and naptime
Did I mention it’s nice when the kids go to sleep
These are a few of my favorite things

When the kids fight
When my husband’s late
When I’m feeling sad
I open the freezer, pull out the ice cream
And then I don’t feel so bad

Who You Are

I know you wonder
If you’ll ever have a day
Where the kids stay calm, the laundry’s done
And the dishes are put away

And sometimes you feel like
Your days are spent and gone
And the question running through your mind
Is what have I gotten done
And when you finally have a moment to slow down
At the end of your day I know Father would say

Believe in what you’re doing
Believe in who you are
And hold tight to the truth that you’re a daughter of God
Believe in who you’re becoming, believe in who you are

Now it might seem simple
All the little things you do
But the lives you touch matter so much
And there’s no one else like you

And Father needs you to stand tall and faithful
To be all you can be
Oh, if you could see what he sees

You’d believe in what you’re doing
You’d believe in who you are
So hold tight to the truth that you’re a daughter of God
Believe in who you’re becoming, believe in who you are

And when it’s hard to believe in yourself
And you feel like you’re beginning to doubt
Remember

That he believes in what you’re doing
He believes in who you are
So don’t lose sight of the truth that you’re a daughter of God
That he believes in who you’re becoming, He believes in who you are

Lyrics:

1.   Christmas Once Again
(Hilary Weeks)

When the frost comes
When mittens and hats go on
When the snow leaves a blanket of white veiling the ground

When housetops
Glisten with strings of light
When the children impatiently wait for that magical night

It’s Christmas
It’s Christmas once again

Sing Halleluia
For a star in the sky and angels who sang
Halleluia, O Halleluia
For the Gift Heaven gave

When sleigh bells ring
When evergreens scent the air
When the ovens and counters are filled with goodies to share

When the laughter begins
As families gather close
When the melodies of the season echo through our homes

It’s Christmas
It’s Christmas once again

Repeat Chorus

When hearts change
When hope conquers fear
When the things that really matter seem a little more clear

When a manger
Tells the story of how we’re blessed
When nations unite in peace and good will to all men

It’s Christmas
It’s Christmas once again

Repeat Chorus

Because of Him
It’s Christmas once again

(Hilary Weeks/Traditional)
 On this silent holy night

 Years ahead will yet unfold
But tonight I’ll keep Him close
Safe and warm in the manger

Tomorrow waits tonight rest your head
Sleep now, Sleep my Son
Sleep in peace
 Silent night, Holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin, mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

10.   Is There Room

(Hilary Weeks)

 I can almost see
If I close my eyes
I can almost see her face
 Filled with hope and wonder
She tells Joseph of
The Son she’ll bear one day
Things she has kept in her heart
Things only she has known
Now Joseph too will know
So with a prayer in her heart
And a babe inside
She tells what must be told
As Mary looks at Joseph and waits for his reply
I wonder if this silent question crossed her mind
 Is there room
Is there room in your heart
Will you let this Miracle in
God’s own Son
God’s own Son has come to save us
Born for me and you
Is there room
 I can almost see
That holy night
As a new star lights the sky
 And Mary patiently waits
As Joseph faithfully makes
One more, one last try
And Joseph knows the time is close as he knocks at the door
When the keeper of the inn appears Joseph asks once more
 Repeat Chorus
And tonight as I tie the last bow
And put one more gift under the tree
I pause in the middle of all of the bustle
As the Spirit of this season whispers to me
 Repeat Chorus

Lyrics:

 “If I Only Had Today”
Hilary Weeks
It seems like I’ve watched a million sunsets
And stared at a thousand full moons
Sometimes it feels like I’ve been here forever
And sometimes it all feels brand new

I could never count the heartbeats
From the day I was born until now
But not a single one goes unnoticed
By Him who breathes life in me somehow

But if there were no more tomorrows
If I knew that I could not stay
I know how I’d spend every moment
If I only had today

I’d hold you and listen
And I’d let the dishes sit in the sink
I’d tell you I love you over and over
And for once I’d just let the phone ring
Then I’d remind you of forever
And how our love would never change
If I only had today
I’d wake up before the sun did
And I’d watch as you quietly sleep
I’d pray for time to move slowly
Knowing the moment won’t keep

All the gifts that Heaven has given
Every blessing that’s come my way
Wouldn’t mean anything without you
So if I only had today
 I’d hold you and listen
I’d memorize every detail of your face
I’d tell you I love you over and over
I wouldn’t let excuses get in the way
Then I’d remind you of forever
And how our love would never change
If I only had today

There’s no time like the present
Life doesn’t come with any guarantees
The sun will set and time won’t wait
So while I have today

 I’ll hold you and listen
I’ll let the dishes sit in the sink
I’ll tell you I love you over and over
For once I’ll just let the phone ring
And I’ll remind you of forever
And how our love will never change
Because I have today

“Faultless”
Hilary Weeks
When the sun sets and another day is over
I think about the person I wanna be
When I hold up a mirror to my life
Sometimes I don’t find who I was hoping to see
I made mistakes today and I’ll probably make mistakes tomorrow
I couldn’t save myself no matter how I beg or borrow
I’m gonna need His grace
 On that day
On the day of grace
Through the Sinless One
My sins will be washed away
And I’ll stand worthy
Only because He stands by me
With mercy
And love without end
He will lift me
So I’ll never fall again
Then He’ll present me
Faultless
Faultless before God
If my sins were drops of water
And tried to hold them with my hands closed tight
Some would slip through right past my fingers
I couldn’t catch them all no matter how hard I tried

But there are hands that have my name forever written on them
The price was paid and not a single soul will be forgotten
As we receive His grace

On that day
On the day of grace
Through the Sinless One
My sins will be washed away
And I’ll stand worthy
Only because He stands by me
With mercy
And love without end
He will lift me
So I’ll never fall again
Then He’ll present me
Faultless
Faultless before God

“Just Let Me Cry”
Hilary Weeks

I believe that everything happens for a reason
We’re not just tossed by the wind or left in the hands of fate
But sometimes life sends a storm that’s unexpected
And we’re forced to face our deepest pain

When I feel the heartache begin to pull me under
I dig my heels in deep and I fight to keep my ground
Still at times the hurt inside grows stronger
And there’s nothing I can do but let it out

Just let me cry
I know it’s hard to see
But the pain I feel
Isn’t going away today
Just let me cry
Till every tear has fallen
Don’t ask when and don’t ask why
Just let me cry

When I agreed that God could put this heart inside me
I understood that there would be a chance that it would break
But I know He knows exactly how I’m feeling
And I know in time He’ll take the pain away
But for now

Just let me cry
I know it’s hard to see
But the pain I feel
Isn’t going away today
Just let me cry
Till every tear has fallen
Don’t ask when and don’t ask why
Just let me cry

I have felt joy the kind that makes my heart want to sing
And so my tears are not a surrender
I know I feel that way again
But for now
For this moment

Just let me cry
I know it’s hard to see
But the pain I feel
Isn’t going away today
Just let me cry
Till every tear has fallen
Don’t ask when and don’t ask why
Just let me cry

I believe that everything happens for a reason

“Tender Behind the Mercy”
Hilary Weeks

A candle sits in darkness
Until there burns a flame
And a river dry and barren
Must wait for the gift of rain

Like the river I have thirsted
He has filled my cup
Instead of just one tiny flame
He gives me the sun

He’s the tender behind the mercy
The unconditional in love
And when I need forgiveness
He’s the Redeeming in Son
More and more I see
He’s the tender behind the mercy

I’ve had moments in the spotlight
And days I’ve wished to hide
In sunshine or in the shadows
He is by my side

CHORUS Repeat

More than once I’ve added to the pain he bore in Gethsemane
Yet gentle as a morning breeze His love reaches out to me

CHORUS Repeat

Reaching
(Carolyn Arends)
There’s a time I can recall
Four years old and three feet tall
Trying to touch the stars and the cookie jar
And both were out of reach
And later on in my high school
It seemed to me a little cruel
How the right words to say always seemed to stay
Just out of reach
Well I should not have thought it strange
That growing causes growing pains
‘Cause the more we learn the more we know
We don’t know anything

But still it seems a tragic fate
Living with this quiet ache
The constant strain for what remains
Just out of reach

We are reaching for the future
We are reaching for the past
And no matter what we have we reach for more
We are desperate to discover
What is just beyond our grasp
But maybe that’s what heaven is for

There are times I can’t forget
Dressed up in my Sunday best
Trying not to squirm and to maybe learn
A bit of what the teacher would teach
And later lying in the dark
I felt a stirring in my heart
And though I longed to see what could not be seen
I still believed

I guess I shouldn’t think it odd
Until we see the face of God
The yearning deep within us tells us
There’s more to come

So when we taste of the divine
It leaves us hungry every time
For one more taste of what awaits
When heaven’s gates are reached

Repeat chorus

I believe that’s what heaven is for
There’s a time I can recall
Four years old and three feet tall
Trying to touch the stars and the cookie jar
And both were out of reach

“He Loves Me”
Hilary Weeks
Don’t it seem sometimes like the world is falling
And you’re standing underneath
You’ll never get out from under it
Or at least that’s how it feels

With a load so heavy and the days so long
You can barely breathe
And the only thing that keeps you standing
Is getting on your knees

When I need that burden lifted
When my strength is gone
There is one thing
That keeps me holding on

Deeper than my heart can hide
Stronger than I feel inside
More than I realize
He loves me
Steady as the day goes by
Longer than the reach of time
Enough to give His life
He loves me

I have felt it in the darkest night
When He stayed with me till dawn
On the days when I’m too weak to walk
He carries me along

Above the noise and the clatter down deep in my soul
In the middle of my pain
He tells me I can make it
And He promises to stay

In a world where nothing’s certain
I can count on this
There is no love
No love truer than His

CHORUS
Repeat

“Now”
Hilary Weeks

I was blind
Walking in the dark
Until I saw your light
You opened my eyes and lit the path before me
Clearly
And now I see

A heart of stone
Guarded by pain
Until I found your love
You broke down the walls, rebuilt the trust inside me
Patiently
And now I feel

Abandoned and lost
Unsure of my worth
Until I felt your grace
On Calvary’s cross you gave your life to save me
Willingly
And now I know

“Take Me There”
Hilary Weeks
There is a place where every tear drop that falls is counted
And every piece of the heart that’s been broken is put back together
A place where healing begins
And the hurting ends

Take me there
I’m ready to go
Cause I can’t carry this by myself anymore
Wrap me up
Hold me tight in Mercy’s arms
Let your sweet, sweet peace
Pour over me
And heal my soul
On the wings of this prayer
Take me there

There is a place where the past doesn’t cast any shadows
Where love fills the corners of the heart and little by little
Dreams dare to be dreamed again
Only broken know the way there
Cause they’ve walked Redemptions road

CHORUS Repeat

I need your name
I need your grace
Oh to lead to that place
Please take me to the place
Where you can heal my heart
Where you can heal my soul
Where you can heal me

CHORUS Repeat

“It Would Never Be Enough”
Hilary Weeks, Tyler Castleton, Lowell Alexander

If pen and paper could script God’s glory
And speak of His wondrous love
Every chapter ever written would never be enough

If words and music could fill the Heavens
And sing of His grace from above
Every chorus ever offered would never be enough

If all of our praises for ever more
Were each grain of sand on ten thousand shores
Alleluia
Alleluia
I would never be enough

If all the ages were but an instant
To worship and lift Him up
Countless lifetimes of endless moments
Would never be enough

CHORUS Repeat
